Yes, another 80's band that I was crazy about. Jammin to their tunes all night. While writing an article about them, it took me back to the 80's. Reminisced about my crazy teens and the wild things I did. I saw Loverboy in concert when I was 15, man that was so long ago. Fun times!! The events of the night were non-criminal, I behaved, but had a lot of fun. I was never as wild as the girls that made their way backstage. Details won't be discussed, but the girls I did know so heard some xxx stories. It would have been nice to meet Loverboy, but.... Concerts are such a good time. If I was a guy becoming a Rock Star would have been my chosen dream.
Michael Vick was in the news again. The NFL are considering Vick still after the horrible things he did to dogs. I couldn't believe that Vick after his release from prison in July 2009 will be allowed to continue his NFL career. I was appalled by this and wrote an article that was published on Associated Content about how I feel about this news. Check out the article.
Dogs should not be abused or neglected or made into dog fighting machines for these ten reasons.
1. Dogs give love and kisses freely.
2. Dogs do the funniest things. My Daisy's favorite past time is to sleep on her back farting and snoring really loud. She provides my husband with lots of laughs with her loud snore.
3. My Rottweiler Daisy gives hugs. She puts her head between your legs and this is her hug to you, now you must pet her.
4. Dogs are always happy to see you when you come home and greet visitors with their whole body wiggling.
5. My pup Apollo loves to sleep with mama. He jumps up on the bed every morning and snuggles up next to me keeping me nice and warm. This is great on those cold, snowy days.
6. My pups make me laugh and make me happy as I watch them run around after each other in the backyard.
7. Dogs are so easy to care for and love. All you have to do is walk them, feed them, groom them and shower them with endless amounts of affection.
8. Dogs are so easy to please. Daisy loves to have her belly rubbed and a tossing a tennis ball for her to chase. These two things puts Daisy in heaven.
9. When my husband travels my pups keep me company and safe.
10. Dogs don't care what you look like or whether you have lots of money. They just love being apart of the pack and are eager to please.
I can't believe someone would throw away a dog. Jack was put in a dumpster left to die, luckily, someone found the dog and took him to the humane society where he was adopted. Jack is a blessing to Maya, a little girl that has seizures and other problems. This little dog has saved her life many times and has helped her in other ways. Dogs are such a special animal. Whoever threw this dog in the trash should be beat. Hooray, for Jack the wonder dog and angel to Maya!! Read the full article and watch the video.
I've heard many stories of dogs being left or taken to the humane society, because of the slump in the economy. In a week, I found two stray dogs. They looked like they had been on the streets for awhile. They were thin and dirty. I took them to the humane society hoping that their owners were looking for them or that they were adopted. I'm regretting that I didn't take them to a no-kill shelter, but I hope they have found homes.
Here is another story about dogs being abandoned in Frederick, MD. They were all small breed pups and it was a really cold day when they were left on the side of the road. There is a $500 reward for any information on who did this cruel act. There are no-kill shelters out there that owners can take their dogs to. If you have any info about who abandoned these dogs or want to adopt any of the pooches, here is the contact information. It’s located at 1832 Rosemont Avenue, or you can call them at (301) 600-1546

I was shocked to find out the poisons that are put in some dog foods. I had heard that there were crappy things put in some canine grub, but I was not aware of how harmful some of the ingredients were. Read the labels before you buy your pup that food. One of the bad things you want to be on the look out for is BHA (Butylated Hydroxyanisole), which is a cancer causing agent, especially, stomach cancer. They don't allow BHA in children's food, but I guess no one cares about canines being harmed.
BHT is Butylated Hydroxytolune and used in cosmetics, rubber, jet fuels, etc. I can’t believe this preservative is put in dog food. It can cause liver damage, metabolic stress, and increase cholesterol. Ethoxyquin is a pesticide. It has been known to cause liver/kidney damage, cancerous skin lesions, blindness, leukemia, liver cancer and so many other ailments.
The last preservative to avoid in dog foods is propylene glycol, which is another carcinogen. It is known to destroy red blood cells. This poison is found in wet dog foods so make sure to read the labels and if any of these preservatives are listed put them back on the shelf. I have to wonder who is putting this poison in canine food and whether or not they even care about dogs.
Plus, you don't want to by dog food that has meat by products in it. Dog foods that have by-products have manure, hair, hide trimmings, bone, hoof, horn, and other bad additives. This does not sound tasty and I’m sure our dogs would like a more delectable dinner.
There should be at least 24% protein in the dog food. A dog’s diet must contain an adequate amount of protein to build a strong immune system, give them a shiny coat, and maintain proper weight. The proteins must be digestible to rebuild cells in tissues, organs, antibodies, etc. Plus, the more digestible the food is, the less the dog’s body has to work to utilize it.
Just like in human food this rule applies to dog food, the ingredients listed first are what the food contains the most of. If by-products are listed first, your dog will be eating junk rather than nutritious ingredients. You want to avoid foods that have animal fat in it. Unless, it specifies the animal fat, such as chicken, the fat in the dog food could come from anywhere. We wouldn’t want to eat mystery fat, so why make our dogs dine on it.
I feed my dogs Science Diet. It’s very good food and I don’t mind that it cost a lot more than the cheaper dog food. Adding more years to my dogs’ life, this gives me comfort and I want to have them around as long as possible.
So I was informed by Jean Marie that an older Rottweiler's legs were tied and shot in the head twice in a wooded area. One, why would anyone do this? Two, it's completely cruel to hurt animals. Three, I hope whoever did this is caught and goes to prison. Animal cruelty laws need to be stiffer. Older dogs are still lovable and loyal. They have the right to live there life to the fullest and be cared for. Look at my little Daisy, how could anyone harm a Rottie?
I was reading an article about the top 10 things your dogs should not eat, so I thought I would share this with all my dog loving friends.
1. socks
2. underwear
3. pantyhose - I didn't know dogs ate these.
4. rocks - I have problems with Daisy eating rocks.
5. balls
6. chew toys
7. corn cobs - I didn't know about this one either.
8. bones
9. hair ties - I didn't know about this one either. Good to know.
10. sticks - I can't get my dogs to stop eating sticks.
Luckily, these adorable pups survived animal cruelty from a group of kids as young as 10!! They were trying to burn the puppies alive and a woman walking by saved the adorable dogs. This woman was very brave and I am happy that she had the courage to confront the gang of kids to help save the puppies. Animal cruelty needs to stop. Adults need to start setting examples on treating animals with love and respect. Read the full story at Daily Mail.
Even during terrible times, love can bud. These two Koalas have bonded after they were rescued from the Australian fires. Sam, the female Koala, was saved by the firefighter Dave Tree. You may have seen video footage of the rescue that has been in the news the past couple of days. Her paws were badly burned and she was very thirsty. Tree yelled for water after he found her bewildered and in pain. Koalas don't let humans get that close to them, but she was very thankful and relieved that Tree found her and gave her water. Sam befriended Bob, the Koala, after she was taken to the Animal Shelter. The full story can be read and where you can send donations to help those out affected by the fires are on Yahoo News.
My husband and I went to the Art Museum over the weekend. I really enjoy looking at all the creative creations and I'm usually drawn to abstract art. My favorite artists are Picasso, Kandinsky and Dali. Here are some of their pictures I like.
Why do I like these pictures? Dali's butterflies remind me of my grandmother, so that is why I like this painting. Kandinsky's painting looks like a chaotic mess or just scribbles. Some would think why is this considered art. I don't know how to explain why I like the scribble, chaotic mess. All I can say is I'm drawn to paintings that have this type of interpretation. Picasso's painting is different that is why I like it.This is a creative way to show a violin and a guitar.
This painting is another favorite. When I look at it the first word that pops into my head is beautiful. The grand appearance of the lillies and the curves of the woman, I could stare at this painting for hours.
I'm fascinated with Native American Sand Art. The details and beauty of the art amazes me. Because it's made out of sand, crushed stone and plant pollen. I read that the Native American sand art was used for healing purposes to restore health and harmony. I would love to learn how to create this beautiful art.
Despite that I am lost after each episode, I find the show fascinating. And I will be very sad when it ends.
Another Sex and the City movie is in the works. Yaaaaayyyyy!! I'm a HUGE Sex and the City fan and was very sad when it ended. I miss seeing Miranda, Charlotte, Samantha and Carrie. Finding out all the latest fashions and seeing all the hot spots of New York. I have all the seasons on DVD and of course I'll be buying the first movie. There weren't many details about the second Sex and the City movie, but of course I'll be on the lookout for sneaks.
Lost is on tonight!! I'm so excited. I can't wait to see what this season reveals. I'll probably spend the whole season lost and confused like I did the previous ones. But I like shows and movies that make me go hmmmm, I guess that's why I like mystery books.
Will they explain how a whole island was moved? Will there be new people showing up on the island? Will people who died come back from the dead? In last season, we got a peek into the future or maybe it was the present, I'm not sure. Jin was dead, I hope this is not the case. So many of the characters I like have died. Well, this island is supposedly "special" so maybe people don't really die.
During this season, will they explain why Ben is so kooky? He seems to only be concerned with his welfare. And why is it that he has all this influence over everyone even in the future? I know I probably sound kooky to those who don't watch Lost. Check the show out, it's addictive. However, I would advise watching the previous seasons so you're not so Lost.
Tune in tonight on ABC, Lost is on at 8 p.m. mountain time.
I watched the Presidential inauguration all day yesterday. This was my first time watching it. I voted every year, but I didn't take the time to see the new Presidents get sworn in. But with the first, black President, I had to witness this history. I didn't want to miss it.
I voted for Obama and was so happy that he won. It's time for change in America. I hope that he is able to make change happen. Americans have to remember that they have a voice. They need to get involved in politics. Write letters to your congressmans and senators, this is how change will definitely happen.
The Empress Orchid is my next book in my quest to read the stack of books I have had sitting on the bookshelf for years. I bought this at a local library for I think it was $2. I love shopping for bargains and really like getting hardcover books for a steal.
Anyway, the Empress Orchid caught my interest, because it is about the Ch'ing Dynasty in 1852. A concubine is able to win the affections of the Emperor and bear him a son then finds herself the ruler of China. I've read the first page and I can't wait to read more about the Chinese history and about Chinese royalty.
Stay tuned for more to come about Empress Orchid.
I finished The Last Juror. I can't share what happened at the end, because I don't want to give away all the juicy details. However, I will tell you there were some surprising twists. I really enjoyed reading about the South. It took me back to when I lived in Texas. I don't miss living in the South, but it was fun to read about Mississippi and all the quirky things about Southerners.
Some day, I would like to meet John Grisham and have him autograph one of his books for me. And I do plan to read every one of his books. I have The Appeal here. I was tempted to start reading it. However, I thought I need to mix it up and chose another book, which I will blog about next.
Well, the good news is the weather was much better than forecasted. It was suppose to snow and the high was to be 17 degrees. Actually, the snow never came and the sun shined. However, it was cold and I think the temperature didn't get past 20 degrees today. I was bundled in many layers and a comforter. I stayed warm, except, for my feet. Uggs did not keep my feet toasty warm. There was a time in the game that it looked like overtime was possible. I don't think my feet would have made it through overtime.
The bad news- the Broncos lost. Sad, sad, sad, but it was so exciting to be at an actual Broncos game. My husband and I haven't been in the new stadium so it was nice to check it out.
The Broncos haven't been the same since John Elway. Defense today, well, sucked. I had to ask, "Am I watching college football or pro players?" Yes, the defense were that bad. During a kickoff, the Bills were able to run 65 yards. They ended up on the 3rd or 5th yard line. And of course, the Bills made a touchdown. The offense did a pretty good job. However, there were several interceptions by the Bills and from one they accomplished a touchdown.
Despite the loss, my husband and I really enjoyed being at the Broncos game even if we froze our tootsies off. If we ever get the chance to go again, a couple more layers, wool blankets and those things that warm your hands and feet (I'm not sure what they are called). This should make for a more pleasant time in 17 degree weather.
This Sunday I am going to my very first Broncos game. It is extremely difficult to get tickets to see the Broncos. Since they are Super Bowl winners two years in a row, the tickets are sold out in a matter of hours when they go on sale.
I'm so excited to go to a professional football game. Actually, I've never been to one. I've been to many college football games. But I'll admit it, professional football is so much better to watch. They just do everything better. However, I'm still very much a Hawkeye fan and watch them every season.
The ground is covered in snow here in Denver. It's been cold every since Thanksgiving. We'll probably freeze our bums off at the game, but I don't care. I want to experience seeing the Broncos. I'll be bundled in NorthFace, gloves, hat, neck warmer, ski pants, and Uggs. As long as there is no wind, it won't be too bad. I watched the Rockies during the World Series playoffs and it was raining, windy and pretty cold.
Man, the things I'll do to watch sports.
So, I've been visiting the Freekibblekat website everyday. I set it so I would get a reminder every day, because I get caught up in my writing and forget. Well, I must confess, I have to do a Yahoo search for the answer to every question Mimi posts on her website. The questions are clever and I enjoy learning the facts about cats and dogs.
I had never heard of the book Good Dog, Carl. After I found out that this book was about a Rottweiler, of course, I was excited to learn about this book and plan to check it out. I don't have kids, but anything about Rottweiler's peaks my attention.
I'm trying to recall all the other facts I have learned from visiting Freekibblekat.com and helping feed shelter dogs and cats. Oh, the name of the dog on the Cracker Jack box is Bingo.
The scientific name for the domestic cat is Felis Catus. I would have never known this if I didn't answer the trivia questions and of course I had to do a Yahoo search to find the answer.
The nutritious meals served to cats and dogs in shelters is up to 538,100 today!! If you haven't visited the site yet, get over there and answer the trivia questions. Each time someone participants in the trivia questions you help donate 10 kibble pieces to dogs and cats. Click on the banner in this blog and it will take you to the website.
Thank you!!
Well, I'm almost done with John Grisham's book, The Last Juror. What have I read so far. Willie Traynor is an Ivy League graduate that moves to Clanton, Mississippi. He had a roommate in school, whose family owned a small town newspaper company and made tons of money. Willie thought this was a great idea, moved to Clanton and started working for the local paper.
It wasn't long and the owner of the newspaper can't afford the business and it is up for sale. Willie has a rich grandmother, who loans him money to buy the newspaper. A terrible crime happens after Willie acquires the newspaper biz. A single mother of two is raped and murdered by Danny Padgitt, who comes from a family of very scary people that lives on an island near Clanton.
Danny is arrested the trial has the first black juror, Miss Callie, who Willie has befriended and he writes many articles about in his newspaper. Miss Callie has seven kids with Ph.Ds and professors at various Universities all over America. Oh, this story is during 1970s. And Mississippi is still segregated. And Miss Callie has one son that is in hiding for having an affair.
During the trial, the Padgitt clan got the bright idea to let Danny testify. As I read about the Padgitt family, I pictured hillbillies with missing teeth and functioning on half a brain due to all the moonshine they drank as they were making it. The Padgitt family sounds like the southern version of the Sopranos, mobsters Southern style. Anyway, Danny testifies and claims all the evidence that the D.A. has against him is a conspiracy and no one is buying this theory. As Danny is leaving the witness stand, he threatens the jurors if they convict him they will pay.
Danny is found guilty of murder, but he's only sentenced to life due to the jury unable to unanimously sentence him to death. Well, a life sentence in Mississippi means 7 to 10 years. The jurors are not educated about this detail, but Willie has been informed. Danny goes off to the big house and Clanton goes back to every day living.
And this concludes the blurb. I'm thoroughly enjoying this book. After visiting Mississippi and living in the South, everything I am reading I can believe about Clanton, Mississippi. The blacks live in one part of the town, there are black only, specified places and the hard time Miss Callie and her husband were given before they were given the opportunity to register to vote. After my experience with the South, I'm thinking there hasn't been much progress there, especially in rural Mississippi.
I didn't enjoy living in the South. I wasn't a fan of the Republican, Conservative way of thinking down there. And I wasn't much for the racism either or a fan of rednecks. One thing I do miss about the South, the food, it was really good and so tasty. And the ice tea in the South, is very, very, yummy.
It's the season for giving and animals need help too. There is a great website created by a 12 year old girl, who LOVES animals, called freekibblekat. She posts questions on there every day. Every question that is answered correctly a local Portland, Oregon company donates 10 pieces of dry food to animal shelters. As of today, this little girl's efforts has helped to donate over 35 million pieces of food to cats and over 50 million pieces of food to dogs. This brings the total meals to dogs and cats at 515, 707 during the writing of this blog.
Help out freekibblekat.com and answer the fun dog and cat questions daily, you can sign up for an email reminder to the daily questions. Plus, visit your local shelter throughout the year and donate food for the many, many animals that are waiting to be adopted. Thank you. Happy Holidays, everyone.
This is what I take when I have a cold. It works, but it really does work best when used right when you think you're getting sick. Jason's mom is a nurse. She kept telling all of us at Thanksgiving how her acupuncture guy told her to take multi-vitamins when you get a cold. You take 5 of the vitamins each day for two days. You do not have to use the Zicam or any other cold medicine.
Use the Zicam and take the multi-vitamins, I listened to Jason's mom and my cold got worse, so I am back on the Zicam. This is the purpose of my blog. Stay on the Zicam, regardless of what your mother-in-law the nurse tells you.
