The Empress Orchid is my next book in my quest to read the stack of books I have had sitting on the bookshelf for years. I bought this at a local library for I think it was $2. I love shopping for bargains and really like getting hardcover books for a steal.
Anyway, the Empress Orchid caught my interest, because it is about the Ch'ing Dynasty in 1852. A concubine is able to win the affections of the Emperor and bear him a son then finds herself the ruler of China. I've read the first page and I can't wait to read more about the Chinese history and about Chinese royalty.
